THE HERITAGE

For centuries, Karlshamn stood at the heart of Swedish spirit culture.
Though the tradition eventually faded, the legacy never disappeared.
Today, ONE NINE Spirits carries that heritage forward on the very ground where it once began.

THE GOLDEN ERA

Karlshamn was once one of Sweden’s most important centers for spirit production.
From the mid-1800s, the harbor city became known for its punsch houses, spice trade and spirit refinement. Barrels, botanicals and exotic ingredients arrived by ship, turning the town into a small but influential hub of Swedish drinking culture.

THE SILENCE

By the mid-20th century the industry slowly disappeared.

Changing regulations and a centralized alcohol monopoly brought an end to many independent producers. The distilleries closed, and a craft that had once defined the harbor city faded into history.

A NEW WORLD

At the same time, the world was changing.

Travel, jazz and a new cocktail culture shaped the early 20th century. From New York to Paris, bars embraced elegance, design and experimentation . The spirit of the Art Deco era that would come to define modern cocktail culture was here to stay.

THE REVIVAL

Since 2017, distillation has returned to the same historic ground in Karlshamn.

At ONE NINE Spirits we honor the legacy of the past while interpreting it through a modern approach to craft and flavor.
